2009 Huge Bear Ursa Gigantes Cabernet Sauvignon
Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: The species name for Huge Bear, the 2009 is our inagural vintage of this wine and is a wine club early exclusive. The nose delivers abundant aromas of blackberry, cranberry, and tobacco. The palate is a seamless continuation of the nose, offering focus and balance and maintaining the purity of the fruit with an underscore of violets and licorice.
Vineyard Notes: This fruit comes from our mountain side vineyards in Knights Valley. 2009 was a classic growing season with warm sunny days to allow ideal ripening and cool nights to allow the vines to rest. The resulting fruit offers excellent complexity with great concentration of flavors and colors.
Production Notes: Clusters were carefully hand sorted before crushing. Maceration occurred over two weeks at moderate temperatures to encourage optimum color and tannin extraction. Extended aging in French oak enhances the sumptuous nature of this wine and allowed the tannins to fully integrate.
Food Pairings: Our Ursa Gigantes is a plush, polished wine that will serve as an excellent match with a variety of beef and game dishes. Its generous fruit and hints of spice will pair nicely with Lamb and Fennel Sausage, Grilled Ribeye or Seared Duck Breast with a Blackberry Reduction.
